Teagen the Very Hungry Caterpillar

This past Saturday we celebrated Teagen’s first birthday with a yard full of family and friends. The weather was perfect and all the plannng to make it a fun and special day was well worth it.

Brianna ( her Mommy and my youngest daughter), planned the day around Eric Carle’s book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Teagen loves  and I mean LOVES food , all food, yet she is tiny and petite. So the Hungry Caterpillar was the perfect theme.

Pinterest was abound with fun ideas for food and decorations that really helped our inspiration. Brianna had a few ideas of her own and between the two of us it all came together.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words so I will post plenty. Starting with the food and decorations:

The ‘Birthday Cake’ a giant cupcake

Brianna gathered the kiddos for a finger painting project and it turned out adorable.

The children were all in swimsuits and in and out of the kiddie pool and sprinklers so clean up was easy.

Now for the birthday girl… our little Teagen.

Why is it so fun to watch that first birthday cake experience? We love to watch the little one’s reaction to that first taste of frosting and cake and ultimately make a mess and end covered in frosting. Then we spend the next few years trying to get them to eat neatly . Well our little Teagen LOVED her big cupcake, even though she only ate a few  bites of actual cake and had more fun playing in the frosting.

We all agreed it was a great day for children and adults alike as everyone stayed until it was time for little ones to slip into jammies and head to bed.

Can’t wait for the next party at our house!
