Thanksgiving / Pre-Christmas Decor

With Thanksgiving next week and Christmas soon to follow I was ready to clear out Fall décor and start thinking about Christmas. Not quite ready to get a tree but wanting to start the Christmas cheer sooner than later. I love, love, love Christmas time and all my decorations and I only get to enjoy them for a month each year.
Here is my Thanksgiving/ Pre-Christmas mantel:

So that’s a sneak peek into my home at the moment. As the Thanksgiving turkey is being made into leftovers the real Christmas decorating will begin with JOY !

Come back again after Thanksgiving and see my home glitter with Christmas cheer !

Early Fall Decor’

It’s a bit early for me to haul out the pumpkins or anything relating to October yet. I just can’t let go of summer time completely quite yet.

It has been sunny and warm so I am in a pre-fall mode. Packing away all seashells and all things beachy and embracing the change of seasons slowly.

Thinking more along the lines of early harvest, apples, pears and sunflowers.

My mantel is free from seaglass and sanddollars and is now holding a container of white hydrangeas and dried artichokes instead. An old board with the word ‘harvest’ written in chalk is there for now until the leaves start to change to orange and red.

Simple yet enough for now. I think sometimes less fuss makes for better design results.

My kitchen island hold limes and herbs with some lime-cilantro scented votives in my galvenized find from Marshall’s.

That’s just a sneak peek around here as I dust away beach sand and pack away any remnants of summer decor and continue the transition.

I hope to be more faithful in updating my blog as the events of the summer wind down and we all get back to our routine.

I finished a few projects and hosted a view events I hope to share in the days ahead.

Happy pre-fall decorating.

Spring Mantel

While the calendar indicates tomorrow is the first day of Spring , I have been in Spring-mode for the past month. Unfortunately the weather here has not been reflecting the change of season as much as one would have hoped for by now. Still I try to tell myself anyday now it will be above 60 degrees and NOT snowing.

So I will keep Springifying the inside of my home while I wait for warmer days to work outside.

Layla over at http://theletteredcottage.net/ is planning to host a link party for Spring mantel makeovers beginning tomorrow. http://theletteredcottage.net/spring-fling-link-parties/

I had decorated mine a few weeks ago when I finished painting the chalkboards. It remains neutral in it’s color scheme but fits the rest of the room’s decor.

Since I have the mirror over the mantel I don’t feel the need to over accessorize, but love to change to reflect the seasons or a special event by adding a few things. Also having a mirror there means when I try to photograph my mantel, if I the shot isn’t from just the right angle you get to see my kitchen and whatever happens to be laying out on the counter..oops. That happened more times than I care to admit.

Here are some of the other options for the mantel I experimented with:

Either way it looks much better in reality than it photographs.

This weekend between rain showers I moved the flower cart to the greenhouse and redid the entry.. Again.  Yes it’s been said I have “Obsessive Compulsive Decorating”, OCD sort of. I worked in a couseling office recently and a pyschiatrist , whom is now a sweet friend, and I decided this must be my condition. I can live with that. I even had to fluff the waiting room pillows when I was there to redecorate her office.

Anyway…. here is the flower cart in the greenhouse:

And the entry.. for the moment:

More indoor Springyness:

Signs that Spring is tying to manifest itself around here:

Happy last day of Winter! Whoo Hoo!

The Lettered Cottage

Spring Decor

I am starting to refresh my home and lighten it up for Spring. It usually takes me a few days of moving things around and putting winter accessories away before it all comes together. I have started though and it feels good to get the lighter fabrics out and change the pillows, throws, my mantel and centerpieces.

I made some moss letters with reindeer moss from Michaels, wooden letters and a hot glue gun. So easy and Springy!

Some more moss accessories. When you live where we do moss is in great supply and so nice and green, so you may as well decorate with it.

Front door entry left side.

I will be adding other touches of Spring as we get into March and approach Easter. Can’t wait to add some flowers to the entry as soon as it’s a bit warmer.

As for the interior here’s the beginning stages of the Spring transformation.

The living room at the moment.

Entry  ( not sure if the Flower Market picture will be staying there , but for now..)

My friend Lynnette’s home is beautifully decorated for Spring. She has given me permission to share some sneak peeks into her warm and inviting home. Enjoy!

We like alot of the same things but put them together in different ways that reflect our personality and style. She” loves clutter” so she told me yesterday and I don’t. It’s fun to see what the same idea or item looks like in someone elses home and their interpretation of how it should be displayed.

So there is the beginning of Spring around my home. Chalkboards are painted and about to be inserted in their frames. I will let you know how that all turns out. I seem to be spraying everything with chalkboard paint lately. It however is very volatile in fumes and I needed to let the boards dry and air out well before bringing them inside.

I actually think I see a a ray of sunshine.. WhooHoo!

Have a great day!
